Winging It With A Day on the Town

It's rare that I am out of the house all day with these five crazy girls, so it is blog-worthy when it happens! On this day (a couple months ago...catching up here!), Megan and Bridget had the day off of school, and we needed to get out of the house to get new tires on our van. So, off to the car dealership we went! I was so proud of the girls that morning. I mean, who wants to be cooped up with five kids in a waiting room at the dealership for over an hour? I was shocked that the other people in the room didn't flee as soon as we walked in. Instead, I was complimented more than a few times on their behavior. They commandeered the coffee table to play Candy Land, and then settled on the couches with their respective books and little toys. It was very wise of them to bring these toys. I didn't even realize they had packed up half of it. They're far better planners than I am! It also helped tremendously that Mary was sleeping through most of this ;)

Before we knew it, our car was ready, and we decided to stay out for the rest of the day. This idea was met with wild whoops! We were already 20 minutes from home, and in the sun, so we had to take advantage! Who needs naps anyway? (Um, these girls do...for the record.)

We hit up McDonald's as a real treat for the girls, and brought it to one of their favorite playgrounds in San Mateo, Central Park. It was "sooooo hot!!" but they survived.

And, then, we headed to the library! It's not often that Megan gets to go to the library these days, with pesky school interfering, so she was especially excited about this impromptu stop. She perused and skimmed to her heart's content, eventually leaving with a little pile. I think she finished all of her books within a few days :) Pay no attention to the nose-picker in this picture!

I'm pretty proud that a day that started out with just a tire appointment turned into such a fun day on the town with all of the girls. They were all smiles by the time we got home, and I got a few of those "best mom ever" comments from them. It was worth it, and totally makes up for the evil glares (all Bridget!), scowls and unhappiness on other days!
