I'm the first to admit that I've taken advantage of (and maybe taken for granted) Matt's many skills around around the house. He's our handyman, landscaper, remodeler, and wonderful dad. He's been put to work mowing and aerating our lawns, trimming and pruning outside, hauling our Christmas boxes back and forth from our crawl space under the house, adding shelves in the girls' toy closet, hefting our Christmas tree out of the house, and organizing the garage. And, that was all in the last two days.
Needless to say, I've been feeling like a big slacker. Yes, I can manage four little ones, but I've got other skills, right?? Last night, I decided to prove that I'm a little handy, too.
After the kids were asleep, I finally started a project I've been putting off for a while. Back when we put Megan and Bridget's big girl room together, I wanted to buy them matching comforters, but I didn't want to spend a ton of money and I didn't want anything too cumbersome to deal with when making their bunk beds. So, I got the bright idea to buy one full size comforter and create two toddler-size comforters. Of course, this was slightly optimistic, since it involved using my sewing machine, which has been collecting dust since before Megan was born. Not surprisingly, they've been in their room for three months, and the sewing machine was still in the back of the closet and the comforter was shoved under the bed. But, last night, with Megan complaining about being cold with her little blanket, and nothing else on my schedule for the evening besides a little HGTV, out came that dusty sewing machine!
Just a little cutting, ironing, a break for ice cream, reading the sewing machine manual for a little refresher, some somewhat straight stitching, and voila - two comforters!!
Now that my sewing machine's out, anyone need anything hemmed?

Nice work! Would love to see a pic! Do they have Duvet covers on them?
And yes, I'll send up some jeans to be hemmed. My sewing machine is also collecting dust in my closet...but mine is going to remain there.
yeah very impressed! Like the Press family I would love to see the pictures. Nice work! I love the new pics on the blog!
I am so not a sewer. Around here, if it needs to be mended; it has a better chance of being outgrown and used for rags. Jasin is brilliant with a needle and thread, be it manual or machine; but I just cannot do it! Post pics!!!! WOuld love to see how they turned out!
You amaze me. Maybe you could give me a refresher course on how to use a sewing machine. I haven't used one since 7th grade sewing class...
